Body Puppets:
What Are They?
.“A type of puppet that demands different techniques of animation based on the body of the puppeteer.”
. Uses the puppeteers body movements as part of the character movements – so the puppeteer becomes part of the puppet, rather than just controlling it.
. Can be controlled by one person or by several people, depending on the size of the puppet and the movement it needs to carry out.
How Are They Made?
. Could have elements of other puppetry designs, such as rod puppets, to control part of the movement
. The actor/puppeteers are in full costume to add to the illusion of the puppet and its movement
. Can be large enough to need internal structures to hold it in shape, and things like wheels to help the actor move whilst using/wearing it.
. Could also have several separate elements that different puppeteers will move, to create a required effect
