Puppet Research- Arm Puppet
What is
an arm puppet?
An arm
puppet is where the persons hand and arm are used to control the puppet and
bring it to life. It is larger than a hand puppet, and therefore can require
two puppeteers to use it effectively.
How does
it work?
Arm puppets
can add more realism in the sense that they can actually pick up and hold
objects. This is done by putting an arm through the puppets sleeve to control
its hand, as well as one hand into the head. Two puppeteers can use one puppet
if both arms of the puppet need to be used. The sleeve of the puppet can be
elasticated to keep it in place so that the puppeteers’ arm does not show when
performing. Rods can also be used to control the puppets arms if the puppeteer
only has their arm to the puppets head.
Can be made
from hard plastic, fabric etc possibly with some stuffing in places and with
decorations attached for the ears, eyes etc.
Arm
Puppet Example
Some
characters from the Muppets and Sesame Street are an arm puppet.
